I knew this was going to happen. I entered NaNoWriMo, and sure enough, although I started off well, I got caught up with real life over the weekend. And of course my daily production went down. I am still pretty close to meeting the target, but I am down from my own personal target of 2,000 words a day. The standard target for NaNoWriMo is about 1700 words a day, so I am trying to do a little better. Since I had already written 10,000 words on my novel prior to the start of NaNoWriMo, achieving 60,000 would just about finish my novel.
But not if I slough off.
Because that’s what happens when you enter NaNoWriMo. You get caught up in the thrill of the process. You become committed to achieving your target goal, and when you don’t achieve it, those feelings of guilt and shame start to hit you. Or at least me. (I do sincerely hope that the rest of you are not as compulsive as I am.)
But, the weekend is over. I have my coffee, my vegetables and dip, and my resolve. I will continue to push myself, and I will achieve my NaNoWriMo goals!
